Join CONPS and BCRLT for a wildflower hike starting at the Courthouse Mountain Trailhead on Sat. July 25th 2015 at 9 am. We will explore the montane meadows and forests of this scenic area. The walk will be 2-3 miles at an elevation of 10,000 ft. Bring lunch, water, camera, hand lens, plant ID books, and rain gear as afternoon thunderstorms are likely. An optional 4 mile hike up Courthouse Mountain is possible, depending on afternoon thunderstorms activity.
Group size is limited to 20 people.
Directions
From Grand Junction, Montrose, and Ridgway: On US550 about 1.8 miles north of Ridgway turn east on County road 10. Owl Creek pass is ~13 miles east. After ~3 mi County Road 10 meets County Road 8 and you will turn right on County Road 8. Travel east on County Road 8 until you see the prominent sign for Owl Creek Pass. At 0.3 miles east of the pass, turn south onto FS Road 860 for ~1.5 miles to the Courthouse Mountain Trailhead. This is all passable in a 2WD vehicle but plan on 30-45 minutes from Hwy 550 to the trailhead.
From Gunnison: Travel south on Cimarron Road to Silver Jack Reservoir. From the reservoir, continue on County Road 858 ~9 miles to Owl Creek Pass. At 0.3 miles east of the pass, turn south onto FS Road 860 for ~1.5 miles to the Courthouse Mountain Trailhead.
