Black Canyon Field Club March 23

Ski/snowshoe Sanctuary Ranch on Black Mesa

Join the Black Canyon Field Club 10:00 am March 23rd for another snowy outing, served with a side of local history. BCRLT board member Steve Smith will be hosting us for a cross country ski or snowshoe on his 100 acres of conserved forest and meadow on the Black Mesa, located north of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The property was originally homesteaded by the Knott Family in the early 1900’s. Steve has built a unique part-yurt-part-solar-dwelling on the land he now calls Sanctuary Ranch. Join us for a few hours exploring the property by shoe or ski, followed by hot drinks at Steve’s unique abode and a little history lesson about the early homesteaders, including old photos. This event will be capped at 25 participants due to parking restrictions so sign up early! If you would like to carpool - offer a ride or be a rider - please let Alecia know in your RSVP and include where you will be coming from that day.

Participants will need to bring their own ski or snowshoe set up. If you have snowshoes you are willing to loan to another, let Alecia know what as well.

Click here for a location map of Sanctuary Ranch. Note that we will be parking cars by mile marker 61 off of Hwy 92. Please plan to meet at Mile Marker 61 at 10:00 am.
