If there's one thing other than majestic mountain peaks that speaks to the heart, soul, and taste buds of most Coloradans, it's a Colorado peach. Cheerful, delicate and delectable, these little pink and golden gems are the star attraction at Ela Family Farms, an organic farm and orchard in Hotchkiss conserved with BCRLT. Apples, pears and cherries also share the spotlight on the farm, now under the loving guidance of the 4th generation of family growers. The Black Canyon Field Club willing be joining the annual Ela Family Farms tour this year on April 14th at 10:00 am.

What growing conditions and harvesting methods make for that perfect Colorado peach? The tour will take us through all aspects of the farm and orchards, which will likely be in bloom! We'll get a chance to see the packing operation, commercial kitchen, and get a demonstration on grafting trees.
Post-tour there is an option of having lunch on the farm provided by another BCRLT conservation partner, The Living Farm Cafe. The lunch is $16 and will need to be purchased ahead of time. If you would like to order lunch (highly recommended!) follow this link to the Ela Family Farms online store.
Alecia will contact the farm to let them know how many are in our Field Club group on Wednesday April 10th, so please RSVP by the 10th. Let me know if you'd like to carpool and I will do my best to arrange some rides. We will meet on the farm a little before 10:00 am on Sunday the 14th - see map below.
Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to see North Fork Valley orchards in bloom and get to know TWO exceptional permanently conserved family farms.
