BCRLT Completes First Year Of Aerial Monitoring In Style

Oct 04, 2011

Our 1st Aerial Monitoring Complete!

Thank you Bill Patterson for your generous support.

On Sept. 30, BCRLT Trustee Bill Bottomly, Stewardship Director Olivia Bartlett and volunteer pilot Bill Patterson conducted BCRLT’s first aerial monitoring of 130+ conservation easements. BCRLT created an aerial monitoring procedure to help reduce travel to and from our 350+ conservation easements.  Not every easement lends itself to aerial monitoring but many do.  Olivia Bartlett developed an aerial monitoring easement package and flight monitoring protocol that allows BCRLT to make the most of modern technology while maintaining a personal touch and boots on the ground tradition for those easements that call for it.

Bill Patterson generously donated his piloting experience, use of his plane, and fuel to help BCRLT achieve its aerial monitoring goals.  Mr. Pattersons’ support for BCRLT stems from living 34 years in Montrose and understanding the importance of preserving the natural and agricultural landscapes of western Colorado. At the age of 14, Bill Patterson began flying planes and now has accumulated 35 years of licensed piloting experienced. Bill Patterson enjoyed the opportunity to observe BCRLT’s service area and the extent of conserved lands.

Please contact our office if you are interested in volunteering for our annual monitoring of conserved lands.
