Conservation and Stewardship
Conservation
BCRLT owns conservation easements on over 42,000 acres in southwestern Colorado. By using cutting edge work to assess and prioritize local conservation needs and by working closely with the local landowning community BCRLT is able to focus on those areas under the greatest threat and needing the most attention. Our simple structure and local understanding allows BCRLT to remain agile in rapidly changing times and able to meld our mission with landowner needs in the best possible way in each circumstance. So we create conservation projects that will serve present and future generations in the ways we all intend.
If you are a landowner interested in learning more about how to conserve your land and culture please explore the information in this section and and then give us a call because we love to talk to landowners about conservation!

Stewardship
The Black Canyon Regional Land Trust is dedicated to the perpetual care of 352 conservation easements held by the Trust. BCRLT conducts a monitoring visit with each landowner on an annual basis. Members and volunteers are crucial to this annual monitoring effort. Working with the Stewardship Director and the Land Steward, a crew of local volunteers assists with monitoring across 42,000 acres in six counties. Given the expanse of acreage and varied uses of the land, the continued stewardship of BCRLT’s conservation easements is an important part of the Trust’s activities. Finally, BCRLT strives to establish a rapport with each of its landowners to accommodate their individual needs.
